National Night Out 2024 in Queen City
National Night Out (NNO) is in its second year in Queen City, and this year’s celebration at Salem Institutional Baptist Church on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, was better than the first! From 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM, the block next to Salem Institutional Baptist Church transformed into a lively hub of fun, food, and fellowship. Families, friends, community members, and local leaders gathered to foster stronger relationships and promote unity. The combination of live music, food, face painting, and games created a cooperative atmosphere that captured the essence of this annual community block party.
Connection and Communication
National Night Out is an opportunity to strengthen the bonds between the community and local law enforcement. The event provides a platform for building trust and communication between residents and the police department. The presence of law enforcement officials—mingling with families, greeting kids, and enjoying the festivities—break down barriers and foster open dialogue. Queen City’s 2024 NNO saw the participation of a wide range of community leaders as well and really showed the grassroots power of when a whole community comes together, change can happen. Local officials were seen conversing with residents, exchanging ideas, and listening to concerns. These interactions allow community members to feel heard and validated, making it clear that their voices truly matter. Salem Institutional Baptist Church, as the host venue, was the ideal location for this gathering.
A Night to Remember Phyllis Isaacs and Honor Mrs. Eva Jones
DCH had the distinct honor at National Night Out to present the Phyllis Isaacs Legacy Award to Mrs. Eva Jones, an iconic leader and advocate in the Queen City community. The Phyllis Isaacs Legacy Award is an annual recognition dedicated to honoring individuals who have impacted their communities, as the late DCH Chair Phyllis Isaacs did. This award is designed to celebrate dedicated leaders who are true community advocates, continually fight for the empowerment of others, and dedicate themselves to improving the quality of life and access to resources for vulnerable populations.
National Night Out and what it represents was the perfect backdrop to recognize Mrs. Jones’ contributions to the city and her work in her community. As the first award recipient, Mrs. Jones was celebrated for her leadership as President of the Queen City Neighborhood Association, her dedication to building community bridges across Dallas, and inspiring the next generation.
More than Activities, A Community Activation
NNO 2024 had something for everyone with delicious barbecue from Lovin U BBQ and Jazzy’s Tacos, and sweet treats from AJ’s Delightful Eats, and crafts tables with custom face painting booths for kids. National Night Out is not only an evening to bond with community members, and kick back and relax, but we also had amazing support from local organizations. Local organizations and resources available to provide information included, Forest Forward, Collective Activism, Miles of Freedom, St. Philip's School and Community Center, Green Careers Texas, BCL, Texas Trees Foundation, State Farm, Lip Gloss for Love, Serun Foundation, and the YMCA. We certainly cannot leave out our two generous sponsors Web City Properties and the Law Office of Calvin D. Johnson P.C.
Queen City’s National Night Out in 2024 is a reminder of the power of community, especially as we head into the holidays. Each of our events reinforces our commitment to coming together and proves that whether through conversation with a neighbor, a handshake with a police officer, or a game of corn hole, we build a stronger community.
