THE CONNECTED COMMUNITIES INITIATIVE

DCH has committed itself to much more than housing in Dallas; we have transformed communities and created lasting impact. We want to formalize our engagement with communities that are home to our developments through the Connected Communities Initiative (CCI) and introduce our Neighborhood Capacity Building Partners. These are the mechanisms of change and how we strengthen neighborhoods by addressing key social determinants of health—including access to healthcare, economic stability, education, social connection, and safe environments.

How DCH Connected Communities Initiative Works

CCI strengthens neighborhoods by investing directly in the people, partnerships, and places that drive sustainable opportunity. Through Neighborhood Capacity Building Partners, such as the Queen City Neighborhood Association, DCH supports resident-led leadership, local organizing, community-driven activism, and the building of homes in the community to help maintain each neighborhood's unique strengths, character, and needs.

Connection is built both through engagement and access. Community events like National Night Out build trust, safety, and relationships among neighbors, while new investments, such as the digital lab and community center at Hillburn Hills, expand access to technology, education, and workforce opportunities.

Together, and with the support of our Capital and Program Partners, these efforts create pathways for residents to connect, build skills, and shape the future of their communities from within.

Capital Partners

Capital Partners fuel the spaces, resources, and CCI programs that connect communities to more educational and economic development opportunities. Whether through financial contributions, in-kind donations of materials, or sponsorships that support our initiatives, these partners provide the infrastructure that makes meaningful engagement possible. Your support helps create safe, well-equipped environments for learning, connection, and empowerment.

Program Partners

Program Partners play a hands-on role in supporting residents by delivering accessible, skills-based programs that strengthen everyday life. From digital literacy and financial education to health and wellness workshops, youth enrichment, and essential life skills, partners help address the social determinants of health directly where residents live. By bringing your organization’s expertise on-site, you create pathways to stability, confidence, and long-term opportunity for families who benefit most from consistent, community-centered support.

DCH White Paper on the Social Determinants of Health

Where people live, work, learn, and play shapes health. From housing safety to access to nutritious food, quality education, economic opportunity, and social support, these factors profoundly influence health outcomes and quality of life. These social determinants of health (SDOH) are the conditions that drive equity, opportunity, and well-being in our communities, and they often determine who thrives and who falls behind.

Our Connected Communities Initiative recognizes that sustainable health improvements require cross-sector collaboration and community-centered solutions. This white paper explores how to address social determinants, from housing stability to neighborhood conditions, drawing on research, local experience, and effective practice.
