Celebrating Mrs. Eva Jones: The First Honoree of the Phyllis Isaacs Legacy Award
DCH announced Mrs. Eva Jones as the inaugural recipient of the Phyllis Isaacs Legacy Award. This award was established to honor leaders who embody service and community, as did one of the champions of DCH and late Board Chair, Phyllis Isaacs. Mrs. Jones' journey from Virginia to becoming an outspoken community and preservation advocate in Dallas represents a lifetime dedicated to building bridges and fostering community.
Meet Mrs. Eva Jones
From a prominent Virginia family, Mrs. Eva Jones' background is steeped in education, service, and compassion. The daughter of a minister whose early years were spent both in the city and the countryside, she has a love of nature that is fitting for Texas life. Her love of community was instilled from an early age, and these values would later guide her as she moved to Dallas. When Mrs. Jones' family relocated to Dallas, she quickly embraced the city and found her way into the heart of its radio industry, working at KKDA-FM (K104.5).
Mrs. Eva’s charisma and style carried her far beyond the radio waves as she stepped into the world of grassroots activism. Joining the NAACP and volunteering in pivotal political campaigns like the 831 Campaign and John Wiley Price's historic run for constable, Mrs. Jones helped pave the way for more excellent representation of the African American community in Dallas. As campaign chair for Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson and an invitee to President Bill Clinton’s inauguration, Mrs. Jones helped shape the political landscape in ways that continue to impact the city.
The Queen of Queen City Neighborhood
Mrs. Eva Jones is the President of the Queen City Neighborhood Association and continues to work in grassroots activism. Mrs. Jones attributes much of her inspiration and drive to her loving family: her husband Norris, her son Von, her daughter-in-law Rebecca, her four granddaughters, and pet Sasha. Through the Phyllis Isaacs Legacy Award, DCH is honored to recognize Mrs. Eva Jones’ contributions to the city.
