Fall Events in Dallas for Families
DCH has had an exciting start to fall with our North Texas Giving Day and National Night Out and we are galvanized by the support of our community and looking forward to the fall! On that note, we have some great events in Dallas for families coming up to showcase for our community. Many of these are low or no cost and great ways to celebrate the season and cooling temps. (what a relief!) Please get in touch using the links if you would like more information on these events, and leave a comment if you would like an event added!
Presented by Reliant, the 17th annual Autumn at the Arboretum will feature over 100,000 pumpkins in a Fall Fairy Tale theme. From Cinderella’s Carriage to Jack and the Beanstalk, fairy tales will be recreated with an Autumn theme. The result, is Gourd-eous pumpkin sculpture and design. Be sure to check the Dallas Arboretum site regularly as they have amazing programming for the community including Diwali Celebration, Halloween, and petting zoos for the family many weekends this fall.
St. James 25th Annual Pumpkin Patch
The St. James 25th Annual Pumpkin Patch is a free event to the public and sells pumpkins of every shape and size, for show and for pies. Many pumpkin patches have grown to include corn mazes, trail rides, and full carnival-style amusement themes, but this community event is for a great cause. The St. James Pumpkin Patch is a joint venture between the church and the Southwest-based farmers engaged in the planting and harvesting of the crop and proceeds fund student trips. This event runs until October 31. Are you not a member of a church? Or are you too far from St. James? Churches have low-cost and free events that are great places to meet members of your community. We recommend checking your local place of worship for all of the fall and holiday events.
This is not for the faint of heart. If you have young teens this is a great event and it is also available in a PG version. It is a mile-and-a-half trail of mystery and terror along the banks of Lake Lewisville in The Colony. When you are looking for a genuine fright this Halloween, this is it!
Dia de los Muertos Parade and Festival
Dia de los Muertos LLC presents the annual parade and festival at the Dallas City Hall on October 29 from 2-10pm. Iconic face painting and celebrating this holiday includes concessions, parade, live music, and arts and crafts that honor the living and passed. This event is completely free and family-friendly and the mission of ‘to honor the past, as we celebrate the living,” with the aim to build an inclusive community spirit”, is something we also support.
Dallas Public Library Spooky Programming
Hocus Pocus, crafts, Critters Halloween Show, and multiple halloween costume contests with great prizes are happening across the city. We had a great time with the Dallas Public Library representatives at our Hillburn Hills National Night out, and they have fantastic holiday and seasonal programming that is absolutely free. Beyond literacy, the Dallas Public Library system offers events on STEM and other sensory activities for children of all ages and abilities.
If you have not been taking your family to the Dallas Public Library branch near you, please take a moment to see what they offer.
