Community Events for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas to Celebrate the Seasons
Dallas is known for hospitality and community spirit. Especially these last few weeks with our National Night Out Event and our groundbreaking, we can really feel the community coming together in support of housing as a common goal and a right. We were asked by some of the residents in Queen City, when is the next event? As the holiday season approaches, and the city comes alive with celebrations, we thought we would share some with you while we keep on working towards building housing for Dallas’ workforce. We won’t be hosting for a minute, but we didn’t want anyone to miss out on the family and community fun this season for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
Halloween: Zoo and Farm
Halloween Nights at the Dallas Zoo:
The Dallas Zoo transforms into a (family friendly) spooky wonderland during Halloween Nights. This event includes costume contests, trick-or-treating, and encounters with friendly, but frightening characters, all set against the backdrop of the zoo's animal exhibits.
Pumpkin Patches and Corn Mazes:
Dallas has a rich heritage in agriculture, and while it has grown considerably, several farms offer pumpkin patches and corn mazes throughout the Halloween season. Flower Mound Pumpkin Patch and Hall's Pumpkin Farm both offer opportunities for families to pick pumpkins and enjoy fall activities like hayrides and petting zoos.
Thanksgiving: Getting Active and Giving Back
Get Active with the Turkey Trot Dallas:
One of the oldest and largest Turkey Trots in the country, is the Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot. It is a Thanksgiving tradition for many and a great way to give back by fundraising for your preferred charity. Participants can choose between various race lengths, and the event raises funds to support YMCA programs.
Give Back with the Thanksgiving Food Drive:
At least for us here at DCH, we feel Thanksgiving is all about gratitude in the community and giving back. Dallas hosts numerous food drives and volunteer opportunities during the holiday season. Organizations such as North Texas Food Bank and many local churches organize food drives to help those in need.
High Holidays: Lights, Trains, and Parades
Holiday at the Arboretum:
The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden truly transform during the holiday season, featuring a stunning display of over one million lights, along with beautifully decorated gazebos and a Christmas village. This is a great spot for family photos and bringing out of town guests.
Neighborhood Christmas Lights:
Many neighborhoods in Dallas go all out with Christmas decorations. Some of the neighborhoods worth seeing are The Highland Park neighborhood for its extravagant lighting displays and the Vitruvian Park in Addison hosts a tree lighting ceremony.
Miniature Trains at NorthPark:
The Trains at NorthPark is a classic holiday tradition in Dallas. Many of our neighbors don’t realize how instrumental trains were to developing Dallas, and you can almost mark time and neighborhoods by how the train lines affected them. This tradition is a miniature train exhibit that winds its way through intricate landscapes and cityscapes. It also benefits the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas, making it an even better way to celebrate the season.
Dallas Holiday Parade:
Dallas Holiday Parade is an iconic event, not to be missed featuring enormous balloons, floats, marching bands and is attended by thousands in Dallas.
From Halloween adventures and opportunities to give back during Thanksgiving to the magical lights and parades that mark the Christmas season, we hope that you spend this time with your community and making memories to carry forward collaboration, fun, and celebration into the coming year!
