DCH Featured in Dallas Free Press

DCH is proud to see the opening of Armonía Apartments featured in a recent Dallas Free Press story highlighting the 6-year-long effort. Located in the historic La Bajada neighborhood, Armonía Apartments reflects a community-centered approach to development focused on affordability and long-term neighborhood stability.

The 15-unit development at 3115 Topeka Avenue includes a mix of affordable, workforce, senior, and market-rate housing designed to serve residents across a broad income range. Developed through a partnership between the City of Dallas and Dallas City Homes, the project directly addresses Dallas’ growing affordable housing shortage while preserving the culture of West Dallas.

The article details the six-year journey to bring the project to life, from pandemic-era funding challenges to securing layered financing partnerships and completing extensive community engagement. DCH President and CEO Jason Brown emphasized the importance of ensuring development benefits existing residents rather than displacing them. Through conversations with neighborhood leaders and residents, the name “Armonía”, meaning harmony, was chosen to reflect a balance between growth and preservation.

The story also highlights the voices of longtime La Bajada residents, who expressed both hope and concern about the rapid changes occurring in West Dallas.
