DCH Learning and Leading in Housing: Current Events

DCH is committed to continuing education and leading in the community, by example. April has been a month full of travel and new opportunities for our leadership team. DCH President, Jason Brown, is a member of the Urban Land Institute’s 2024 class for their Center for Leadership program. The ULI Dallas-Fort Worth Center for Leadership builds community leaders dedicated to the ULI mission in an intensive nine-month program of seven full-day sessions led by professionals in public and private sector roles in the DFW area.

The Urban Land Institute was established after the Great Depression and is committed to shaping the future of the built environment for and transforming communities worldwide. Through leadership and educational programs, volunteer opportunities, and being part of a global network of place shapers, they are helping to make real changes in housing in North Texas. We are proud to have our president actively involved in the Urban Land Institute and to be able to share his acquired knowledge.

Kristen Williams, Community Engagement Manager of DCH, is a part of Engage Dallas’s Class 11. This organization connects next-generation leaders who share the mission of advancing equity in Dallas through civic engagement and service. The pillars and purpose of Engage Dallas are to teach the history of Dallas County, commit to racial equity and diversity, create a pipeline of civically engaged community members, serve the community, and focus on prioritizing the greatest needs of Dallas as a community.

Both Kristen and Jason attended the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) Conference which is dedicated to creating a better economy through the collaboration of community leaders, policymakers, and institutions. NCRC supports research, investigation, investment, grant-making, training, advocacy, litigation, lending, and facilitating the strengthening of communities that have historically been disinvested. This support of economy and equity strengthens disinvested communities, expands economic mobility, holds public and private institutions accountable for their impact, and informs leaders, legislators, and the private sector. Jason, Kristen, and Sherena (Director of Strategic Initiatives), attended the Texas Association of Community Development Corporations, TACDC, Conference. This conference provides a container for developers and leaders to convene and discuss services and programs that help developers make more impact in their communities.  Research and opportunities for advocacy are presented along with networking opportunities. Lastly, Jason was one of the esteemed panelists for Dallas REACh’s Working Group Meeting. The event was an opportunity for participants to share and cultivate innovative strategies in support of affordable housing and small businesses. These events galvanize and help our leadership team refresh their enthusiasm for community, make new connections, and bring new ideas to how we reshape Dallas housing.
