JASON BROWN SELECTED FOR THE NEW GROWING DIVERSE HOUSING DEVELOPERS PROGRAM

Jason Brown, CEO of Dallas City Homes, is redefining the attainable and affordable housing landscape in Dallas

Dallas, Texas. July 20, 2022. Dallas City Homes CEO Jason Brown is one of 27 selected across the country to participate in the Growing Diverse Housing Developers Program from Wells Fargo Foundation. The newly launched GDHDP stems from a collaboration among four Community Development Financial Institutions: Capital Impact Partners, Low Income Investment Fund, or LIIF, Raza Development Fund, or RDF, and Reinvestment Fund. Together, these institutions are increasing racial equity in development and addressing the country’s shortage of affordable homes through accelerated production of multifamily and mixed-use housing projects in metropolitan areas. Key to the success of the GDHDP’s purpose is a $30M Wells Fargo grant which will be designated among the 27 nation-wide participants. The four-year program offers the selected developers’ flexible capital, mentorship, and additional resources to advance development goals in their local and regional economies, all while growing their businesses for further sustainability.

Dallas City Homes (DCH), through Jason Brown, plans to utilize these resources to actualize a “Five for 550” goal, in which DCH will provide 550 multi and single-family units in the communities they serve over the next five years. “Our goal over the next five years is to introduce 550 multi and single-family housing units through acquisition and rehab. Incremental revitalization and development that listen to the needs of a community first, and take a backseat approach from there, ensures neighborhood sustainability. DCH has a unique opportunity as a non-profit developer in that we are not only yield-focused. We can provide housing that surpasses excellent development standards while protecting and empowering the existing rhythm of the neighborhoods we serve. DCH’s focus can remain on the community- not on ourselves.”

The Program will not only support DCH’s efforts from a capital lens, but will also bolster new avenues for operational growth and scalability, giving way for more sustainable community impact in the years to come. The GDHDP’s provision of mentorship opportunities and space to learn from other developers is particularly exciting, says Brown. “I always knew I wanted to be in development, so I jumped into brokerage for immediate on-the-job experience. Once I figured out what that looked like, I provided incremental development in my own community of South Dallas.” This incremental revitalization approach takes its cue from the community, for the community. Jason Brown and DCH are honored to participate in the Growing Diverse Housing Developers Program and look forward to what this partnership creates.
